Being the week before Dragon*con and the first week of school there hasn’t been much time to peruse the internet looking for exciting science fiction and strange technology.

But that doesn’t mean we have nothing for you guys.

Io9.com is running a Science Fiction 101 on numerous subjects ranging from 1) scifi to show to people to get them interested to 2) basic ideas on how to draw scifi art.

Dragon*Con

Dragon*con is almost upon us. As hopefully most of you know Dragon*Con is September 3-6. So far this year Josh and Paul have media pass badges. Travis will be going but maybe as a visitor and not a media guy maybe, depends on if he gets the info together in time. But that is neither here nor there! We pose a few questions to you our dear fans, is there anyone specific you would like us to try and talk to? Any specific tracks we should go to? Are there any events you would like try to cover for the radio show? If you do please either email us at scifilab@wrek.org or post a comment below.

Apology for Lack of Updates.

So first let we apologize for the lack of updates. The last few weeks of Travis’ had him swamped for time. But we are back and updating and this should be a regular blog with Friday updates. So lets begin:

First of all to anyone who listened to Travis’ talk on video games here is a link to an interview with a man we mention discussing video games as art.

First Nickelodeon has announced a direct sequel to the “Avatar: The Last Airbender” Franchise.

This mean that The Last Airbender – M. Night’s movie (ugh… horrible movie) has not completely ruined the franchise and we get to experience the Avatar world some more.

Science Fiction closer to Science Fact.

It seems that every time I open Discovery News there is another story on a seemingly science fiction concept becoming closer and closer to reality.

For examples these two stories:

The first article talks about how researchers have started to mimic biological signals that could lead to intelligent materials and even Artificial Intelligence.

(Because I have been playing the games while house-sitting for my boss) For anyone who has played Mass Effect this could be an early building block of how the Geth from that Universe were made.

The second article talks about a new surgical implant for the elderly that allows for better vision through robotics.
